Struer Sejlklub is ready with a Corona taskforce, which will secure the arrangement of a large world championship regatta for elite-sailors
Struer Sejlklub have established a Corona taskforce, which will secure a safe arrangement of the H-Boat World Championships next year. The WC is held in the waters off the shore of Struer in the Limfjord from August 9th to 14th, 2021.
With over 200 elite-sailors from all over the world, a large audience watching the heats, the H-boat world championship will be one of the biggest sporting events in the region next year.
That is why the organisers, naturally, have had to consider the Covid-19 risk and have in connection to this, chosen to cooperate with local and regional authorities.
“We know there are vaccines coming, but we do not know how the pandemic evolves. For that reason, we do not know if there are certain restrictions in Denmark when we conduct the event. Though, with an event at this size, we will fully hedge ourselves in the best possible way”, says Otto G. Jensen, the head of the world championships.
Work is already ongoing creating a so-called Corona-protocol, which in detail will describe the elements at the event by which there can be a health risk.
This among other things involves the distance between the contestants, jury and official as well as the many volunteers. Furthermore, a large crowd of spectators during the WC-event is expected.
“We will take every scenario into account, so we can create the necessary safety,” Otto G. Jensen says and adds, “We have an excellent cooperation with the authorities, and believes it will create a successful arrangement of the world championships in the shadow of Covid-19”.
Besides Danish elite-sailors, the WC-contestants come from countries such as Sweden, Germany, Finland and Italy. The Covid-19 pandemic led to a cancellation of the WC in 2020, so the many constants cross their fingers for the regatta can be held in Struer next summer in 2021.
“Struer Sejlklub and Struer Municipality have shown a huge commitment in terms of carrying out this event. Especially in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic,” Henrik Toft, Chairman of the Danish H-boat sailors says and adds, “That is also why I feel comfortable with us holding the world championships with the restrictions there will be at that time”.
Before the starting signal of the regatta in August 2021, there is a lot of large tasks the volunteers from the organising club from Struer need to accomplish.
“We have great experience from former regattas, so we are well dressed for the practical part of the assignment. We are working on finding sponsors in these coming weeks. Furthermore, the common members of Struer Sejlklub have started offering their help on all the tasks needed to be filled during the event,” concludes Otto G. Jensen.
